The tenth principle about fighting seems to be to fight, and not just bad-mouth your enemies. It is written, " then said Zebul unto him, 'where is now thy mouth , wherewith thou saidst, 'who is A-bim-e-lech that we should serve him? Is not this the people that thou hast despised? Go out I pray now and fight with them." Judges 9: 38. This principle seems to suggest that instead of letting anger, frustration and disappointment simmer until it explodes into a full scale war, to "fight" maybe like the idea of a couple of men fighting in the yard, to settle a score??
The eleventh principle of warfare seems to be: don't go crying to GOD when you don't listen to HIM, worship false gods , and get defeated, unless you repent. It is written, "and the children of Israel cried unto THE LORD saying, 'we have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our GOD and also served ba-a-lim" [ a false god]. And THE LORD said unto the children of Israel, 'did not I deliver you from the Egyptians and from the Amorities, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines? The Zi-do-ni-ans, also and the A-mal-ek-ites and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried to ME and I delivered you out of their hand. Yet ye have forsaken ME, and served other gods; wherefore I will deliver you no more. Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation." Judges 10:10-14
The twelfth principle seems to be that the man who is willing to fight GOD's war should be the leader. It is written, ' And the people and the Princes of Gil-e-ad said one to another, 'what man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead." Judges 10:18
The thirteenth principle seems to be that the elders of the nation should decide who the Captain will be. It is written, " and it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gil-e-ad went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob, and they said unto him, 'come and be our Captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon." Judges 11: 5-6
The fourteenth principle seems to be that when the Captain is confronted by enemies he should consult with the leader of the enemies. It is written, ' And Jephthah sent messengers unto the King of Ammon saying, 'what hast thou do do with me,that thou art come against me to fight in my land?" Judges 11: 12
The fifteenth principle seems to be that when a war is called, invite all the men. It is written, ' and the men of E-phra-im gathered themselves together and went northward, and said unto Jephthah 'wherefore passest thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? We will burn thine house upon thee with fire! " Judges 12: 1 I don't quite understand this except to remember that some years ago I heard a man say that there is in men a fighting nature because GOD made them that way, and that there is a need for an outlet for that so tensions don't boil over. Also it seems possible that they could feel slighted if not allowed the right of refusal for war as if not judged by the Leader to be not good enough warriors. That is my take on the verse.
The sixteenth principle is don't whine and complain, as it is written, " and the Philistines were afraid for they said, ' GOD is come into the camp!' and they said, 'woe unto us, for there hath not been such a thing heretofore! " Woe unto us! Who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty GOD's [warriors] ? These are the GOD's that smote the Egyptian with all the plagues in the wilderness. " Be strong and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you, quit you, [complaining and whining] quit yourselves like men, and fight.' I Samuel 4: 7-9
The seventeenth principle seems to be that the leader should lead into battle, that the anointed Priest/Minister/GOD's anointed of GOD should be consulted and should plead with GOD on behalf of the people but obey GOD . It is written, '"Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel [the Priest anointed by GOD] and they said, 'nay, but we will have a King over us; that we may also be like all the nations; and that our King may judge us, and go out before us and fight our battles." And Samuel heard all the words of the people and he rehearsed them in the ears of THE LORD [talked them over with THE LORD, the footnote says] And THE LORD said to Samuel, ' hearken unto their voice, and make them a King." And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, 'go ye every man into his city." [And chapter nine discusses how Samuel picked the man who should be King.} I Samuel 8:19-22
The eighteenth principle seems to be that if the Leader or King disdains to fight and arranges for someone to fight in his place, the people may overthrow him and prefer the one who did the fighting. It is written, ' And Saul [whom Samuel had appointed King by this time] said to David, ' behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife; only be thou valiant for me and fight THE LORD's battles. For Saul said [to himself no doubt] ' let not mine hand be upon him but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him [David, to get rid of him]. And David said, unto Saul, 'who am I, and what is my life? that I should be son-in-law to the King? " .I Samuel 18:17-18 . . Chapters eighteen of I Samuel to II Samuel give the rest of the story of how David fled from Saul, hid, then later formed a "militia" and fought against many people, and then the people did indeed much prefer David to Saul.
